After winning a number of accolades and awards last year, including ‘Best Retail ArchitectureWorldwide’ - International Property Awards, Cleopatra Mall is again drawing attention.
At a glamorous gala event in the Natural History Museum in London, on the 9th of June 2011, Cleopatra Group and Design International won the Global RLI Award in the category ‘Future Project Award’ worldwide for the project. Awarded by Retail & Leisure International (RLI), the award recognizes architectural excellence, innovation in construction and also judges the projects in terms of positive impact upon the local community.
Cleopatra Mall had to fight fierce competition, with entries from many respected Architecture firms competing for the Global RLIAward, including such companies as Benoy and RTKL. In the final round Cleopatra Mall won against 3 other contenders, Mall of Istanbul (Turkey), Olympia 66 (China), and Mall of Egypt, incidentally another development in Cairo.
DI Leasing - partner company of Design International responsible for the mall’s leasing - is particularly pleased with the outcome. Emad Abdalla, Partner, said after the award ceremony: ‘We have been working tirelessly over the last year to successfully attract tenants. To win this award is a great honour for us and we believe it is a testimony to Cleopatra Mall being the best future shopping destination in Cairo, Egypt and beyond.’
The RLI Future Project Award brings emphasis back to North Africa, where Design International is currently preparing for the opening of ‘Morocco Mall’ in September in Casablanca, Morocco. The spectacular and highly innovative development is expected to make headlines around the globe later this year.
