After being one of the stars of MAPIC 2010, Design International was again in the spotlight at MAPIC 2011. During a press conference on the 17th of November, a surprise announcement was made: Morocco Mall was awarded a Guinness World Record™ for ‘having the largest in-store shop façade in the world’.
Morocco Mall, whose doors are set to open December 5th was awarded the record for its “in-store shop façade with a combined area of 3,381.92 m² (36,402.68 squ feet) distributed over the three-storey Galeries Lafayette shop (France) located in the Morocco Mall shopping centre in Casablanca, Morocco.
Morocco Mall, which borders the Atlantic Ocean on the Casablanca Corniche coast, is the first and only destination mall in the Mediterranean and Africa. It stretches over 10 hectares (24,700 acres) with 250,000m² (2,691,000 sq. feet) of construction, 30,000m² (323,000 sq. feet) of outdoor space and 14,000m² of landscaped gardens. With 70,000m² (753,500 sq. feet) of commercial space and 350 stores, Morocco Mall brings together 600 brands of a large variety, many of which will be opening a store in Africa for the first time such as: Galeries Lafayette, FNAC and IMAX cinema. In addition Morocco Mall provides astonishing attractions such as the 3rd biggest musical fountain in the world as well as a giant aquarium crossed by a panoramic lift. Ranked in the top 5 in its class worldwide thanks to its new concept of merging retail, leisure and food & beverage, Morocco Mall will offer its future visitors a unique ‘Retailtainment’ experience.
Incidentally, the announcement came on the same day when Morocco Mall was awarded ‘Best Retail Development’, by the International Property Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the retail and property industry.
