M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari Architectural Competition
Design International and Tectoo Awarded 3rd Place in M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari Architectural Competition
We are pleased to announce that Design International, in collaboration with Tectoo, has been awarded 3rd place in the prestigious, invitation-only M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari Architectural Competition. This recognition positions the team among the leading voices shaping the future of learning environments in Europe.
The competition invited eight internationally recognised architecture studios to envision the new M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari educational hub in Maranello. Conceived as a landmark campus, the project seeks to merge advanced technical training, higher education, and community engagement within a single, forward-looking architectural statement.
Promoted by Ferrari in collaboration with Fondazione Agnelli and regional partners, the M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari initiative represents a significant investment in the next generation of engineering and technological talent. Scheduled for completion in 2029, the development will serve as a catalyst for knowledge exchange, strengthening the dialogue between industry, academia, and the broader community.
Design International and Tectoo’s proposal responded to this ambition with a concept rooted in openness, innovation, and human-centred design. Central to the architectural strategy was the integration of diverse programmatic spaces into a cohesive whole, creating strong visual connections across workshops, classrooms, research areas, and public zones. Transparency, porosity, and spatial continuity were employed to encourage interaction and cross-pollination between disciplines, allowing students, educators, industry professionals, and visitors to share ideas within a dynamic and interconnected environment. The project balanced technical precision with spatial generosity, shaping environments that inspire creativity while reflecting the culture of performance and excellence synonymous with Maranello’s global identity.
“The M-TECH Alfredo Ferrari project demonstrates the importance of education in community building. Our design focused on creating spaces for collaboration and interaction not only between students but all Maranello. Celebrating the learning process and showcasing the workshops as the catalyst for activity.” Nick Hart-Woods, Head of Concept, Design International
Securing 3rd place among an elite group of invited firms underscores the power of partnership and the clarity of the architectural narrative. At the heart of this achievement is the coming together of two studios, exchanging ideas and bringing their strongest creative teams to the table. An open approach, clear communication, and a shared commitment to excellence guided the process, resulting in not only a compelling architectural vision but also a collaborative process defined by mutual respect, rigorous dialogue, and the synergy of two studios working as one.
“Developing the architectural proposal as a combination of contextual reading, functional performance, and interpretation of a core message — in this case, the identity and dynamism of the automotive world — has been the central focus of our collaborative design process. Our shared working table explored how architecture can translate brand values into space, form, and experience, creating a built environment that is both meaningful and purposeful”. Andrea Peschiera, Partner/Director, Tectoo
