MondoJuve: Phase One Completed!

Design international celebrated the opening of the innovative retail complex, Mondojuve, today. Situated to the south of Turin, Mondojuve sits on a 33-hectare site that is under the jurisdiction of two town councils, Vinovo and Nichelino. Speaking at the opening, CEO Davide Padoa said: “I am happy to see that, despite the recent recession, the territory has been transformed with an environmentally smart and well phased development, which ultimately will boost the economy of one of the most vibrant and commercially savvy communities in Italy. The opening marks a wonderful moment for everyone involved but what matters the most, is that it is a project made for people.”

The centre offers a unique experience as it harmoniously blends opportunities for retail alongside relaxation, leisure and catering. Central to the design was the focus on the green environment so that it responded sensitively to the beautiful site on which it stands. This is achieved though attention to detail in the planning of spaces, the materials used as well as the integrated approach to architecture and landscape which allows seamless and fluid transition between internal and external spaces. Outdoor spaces have been carefully crafted to provide places for activities for each season, such as a waterpark for children in summer and ice-rink in winter. The focus on sustainability can be seen in the extensive use of renewable technology including solar and photovoltaic panels, heat recovery on air handling and rainwater collection for irrigation.

The opening of Mondojuve comes alongside several other notable successes for Design International in the past year. It follows the opening of Arese (April 2016) and Ikea Bayonne (November 2016); and ahead of openings of Plaza Patria (November 2017) and Aura Mall (March 2018).
